The hardest content doesn't matchmake
Raids, dungeons, and Grandmaster-tier Nightfalls ship without matchmaking by design. The in-game Fireteam Finder posts listings, but vetting and chemistry are still on you. That's why Destiny grew the strongest LFG culture in the genre: the endgame is literally inaccessible without assembling people.
Mechanics are jobs, not DPS checks
Destiny raid encounters assign roles (reading symbols, banking motes, holding buffs, running relays), and one confused player wipes six. Experience honesty matters more than power level: a false "know the fight" claim costs the whole evening, and teaching runs only work when they're labeled as such.

How is this different from Discord LFG servers?

I don't have a regular group. Can I still raid?
That's the exact use case. Raids need six: post the one you want, filter by experience (teaching, learning, or experienced), and fill the fireteam. Good one-off groups have a way of becoming recurring ones.
What about dungeons?
Dungeons take three, and a trio is the easiest fireteam to keep alive. Set party size to three and match on schedule. A standing dungeon crew is how raid teams start.
