EA FC 27 Clubs Squad Guide: Filling Your Eleven and Crossplay Limits
How to fill an 11-player EA FC 27 Clubs squad: which positions to lock down first, where to recruit regulars, and which platforms share a crossplay pool.

TLDR
EA Sports FC 27 moves Clubs inside The Grounds, a social hub where Leagues, Playoffs and new 11v11 Club Tournaments sit next to small-sided pick-up games and Rush. The Grounds supports crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but not Switch 2, and the PS4, Xbox One and original Switch versions don't include Clubs at all. Filling eleven spots is mostly a recruiting and scheduling job. Lock down the spine of the team, keep a bench, and give the club something to do on nights when only three people log on.
How Clubs works in FC 27
FC 27's worldwide launch is September 25, 2026, with PC unlocking at 23:00 UTC on September 24. Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition owners got early access from September 18, or 23:00 UTC on September 17 on PC. Clubs now sits inside The Grounds, a world of up to 100 players built around a central Terrace and three districts. The Clubhouse in the Terrace runs League, Playoff and 11v11 Live Event Tournament matches, and other modes have their own entrances:
- League and Playoffs. League play moves your club through the divisions toward Elite Division, and Playoffs are the season's big-reward competition (EA's Clubs page).
- Club Tournaments. New 11v11 events against other clubs, with varying rounds, rewards and House Rules such as Mystery Ball and King of the Hill. The first, a Classic Stadium 11v11 Event, runs from early access through launch.
- 11v11 Drop-In and Ranked Rush. Neither is in the Clubhouse. Drop-In is reached from Parkside and Ranked Rush from the Rush Stadium, and both pull you out of The Grounds into classic matchmaking against players of similar skill.
- Small-sided games. Three-minute 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and in-world Rush matches run on pitches around the districts, against players in your current Grounds world.
Who crossplay lets you play with
Check this before recruiting: a great player on the wrong version can't join your club.
- PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC share one pool. EA says The Grounds supports cross-play between those three, and its Clubs leaderboards have a "Crossplatform Current Gen" category, with Switch listed separately.
- Switch 2 is on its own. Clubs is on Switch 2, but without crossplay. Nintendo Life's Switch 2 review warns that fielding a full team and finding another to face is a tall order, and its reviewer struggled to find regular Grounds matches during early access. The same review says popular Ultimate Team modes like Division Rivals have become somewhat easier to match into on Switch.
- PS4, Xbox One and original Switch can't play Clubs. FC 27 is sold on all three, but The Grounds, including Clubs, is only in the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 versions. Dual Entitlement upgrades PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series X|S at no extra cost, within the same console family.
- FC 27 Lite leaves out The Grounds. The free version covers modes like Kick-Off and Online Seasons, so a friend trying it out can't join your club.
- Crossplay has to be on. A friend on another platform can't play with you if crossplay is turned off, Game Rant notes. The "Cross-play Enabled" setting is under Preferences, then Online, then Matchmaking Options.

Build the spine before chasing eleven
Few clubs have eleven regulars. Game Rant's FC 27 guide says the AI can control positions you haven't filled, though EA's own deep dive and help pages don't say how many humans a match needs. Recruit humans first for the roles that depend most on knowing your teammates:
- Goalkeeper. A regular keeper who talks organizes everyone in front of them, so recruit for the spot directly.
- Center-backs. Knowing when to step up and who takes which runner only improves with repetition.
- A holding midfielder. Someone happy to screen and recycle possession keeps the shape together.
- A striker and a creator. A settled pair reads each other's runs.
- Utility players. FC 27 unlocks every Archetype from the start, makes resets free and lets you fine-tune attributes inside Clubs lobbies, so covering a gap costs nothing. Masteries also turn Archetype milestones into permanent attribute boosts across all your builds, so time in another role still pays off.
Recruit for schedule and region first
Availability beats talent. Steady mid-level regulars outlast stars who show up twice a month.
- Match time zones and regions. There's no in-game way to choose a Grounds server, lock your region or cap ping, and friends in far-apart regions may not all get a good ping site. Recruit near home.
- Scout before you join. If you're the one looking for a club, EA's Clubs site lets you search clubs and see their team composition, so you can spot a gap at your position.
- Run tryouts in small-sided games. Parties can queue together in The Grounds, so play a few 2v2 or 3v3 games with a prospect. You'll quickly see whether they pass, talk and handle a loss.
- Post a specific ad, such as:
Clubs, crossplay (PS5/Xbox/PC), US East, Tue and Thu 8–10pm ET. Need a keeper and a center-back. Mic on for League nights.
If your friends list won't stretch to eleven, Player 2 matches you with players by the games you own and the hours you play.
Set a fixed night and one voice channel
- Pick one or two regular nights. Standing sessions survive busy weeks better than "whenever people are on."
- Save full-squad nights for the big events. Limited-time experiences like Club Tournaments and Playoffs offer greater rewards. Season 1's European Nights event runs small-sided Live Events in the districts that lead into an 11v11 Stadium Club Tournament.
- Sort voice before kickoff. The Grounds has no proximity chat or open mic, so voice and text chat with friends runs through EA Connect. Hardcore Gamer's review called the lack of voice chat a weak spot. Agree on one channel for everyone, and if some members are mic-shy, voice chat anxiety lays out a path from pings to full comms.
- Name a captain for invites. Entering the Rush Stadium, the Clubhouse or 11v11 Drop-In takes you out of your Grounds world, and you may come back in different worlds. One person should handle re-invites through EA Connect. On the map, blue dots are clubmates and pink dots are your party.
- Rejoin fast after a drop. Some Clubs 11v11 matches support Hot Join, but open spots go first-come, first-served, so another player can take yours.
Keep the club busy between full nights
- Let everyone contribute. Club Objectives track shared wins, such as five League matches, and combined progress across different experiences, such as collectively winning 50 1v1 matches. Members help even when you aren't all online.
- Chase the weeklies. Club Weeklies and Seasonals pay out Amps, Consumables and Coins. Milestones earn fans for your club's reputation, and Elite Objectives reward clubs in Elite Division.
- Use short nights well. Two or three players can still play small-sided games. Kickabouts work too, and EA suggests them for progressing your Archetype between Clubs matches. Kickabouts only start once enough players join, and Hardcore Gamer found the AI doesn't fill those party-game slots.
For the long game, how to build a gaming community covers weekly anchor events and giving members something to own.
Before your first League night
Confirm everyone is on a PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC copy with crossplay on, or that the whole group is on Switch 2. Then lock down a keeper and a back line, pick a night and a voice channel, and give the bench objectives to chase. The rest of the eleven is easier to find for a club that plays on schedule.
