Cross-Platform Gaming: How to Squad Up Across Console, PC, and Mobile
Crossplay is the default in 2026. Squad-finders that ignore platform pools fail. Here's how to find cross-platform teammates that actually work.

TLDR
Crossplay is the default in 2026 for Fortnite, Apex, Warzone, Rocket League, Minecraft Bedrock, and most mobile-PC hybrids. The matchmaker doesn't care what device you're on, but your input device, your voice-chat platform, and where your progression lives all matter. A good squad-finder works with each game's actual crossplay rules. Player 2 treats platform as a soft filter, not a wall.
Where crossplay actually works (and where it doesn't)
| Game | PC ↔ Console | PC ↔ Mobile | Console ↔ Mobile | Pool isolation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | Input-based MM |
| Apex Legends | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | Input-based MM (no mobile) |
| Rocket League | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | None |
| Warzone | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | Input-based MM |
| Minecraft Bedrock | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | None |
| Minecraft Java | PC only | PC only | ❌ | Java is its own world |
| Valorant | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | PC + Console separate pools |
| COD Mobile | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | Mobile-only pool |
| PUBG: Battlegrounds | ✅ | ❌ | ❌ | (PUBG Mobile is separate game) |
| CS2 | PC only | PC only | ❌ | (no console version) |
| NBA 2K | Xbox + PS share, PC separate | ❌ | ❌ | Crossplay only between consoles |
Pool isolation matters. Even when crossplay is "on," some games split the matchmaker by input device: controller players queue against controller players, and MnK queues against MnK. Squading up is easy; the matchmaker handles the rest.
Input device matters as much as platform
In shooters (Apex, Warzone, Fortnite, Halo Infinite), the controller-vs-MnK debate is a real matchmaking variable. Aim assist exists, and it's calibrated. The optimal squad composition often pairs one MnK player (for movement and mechanical aiming) with two controller players (for close-range aim-assist consistency).
A good squad-finder asks you what input you use and lets you filter for input-aligned matches if you want consistent expectations across the squad.
How Player 2 handles crossplay
- Platform tag is a soft filter. You can match cross-platform, or lock to same-platform if you only want voice chat in a PSN party.
- Input device is in the profile. Filter for controller-only or MnK-only matches when it matters.
- Edition is a hard filter for Minecraft. Java and Bedrock can't crossplay, so the matcher won't pair across them.
- Cross-game profile. One Player 2 profile covers every game you play. The platform mix you declare carries between Valorant, Apex, and Warzone without re-typing.
Common crossplay LFG mistakes
- Assuming Apex Mobile is in the pool. Apex Mobile shut down in 2023. Crossplay is PC and console only.
- Bedrock + Java Minecraft realms. Not a thing. Pick an edition.
- Crossplay-on for ranked Valorant. Valorant PC and Console are separate ranked ladders. The matcher won't pair across; the squad-finder shouldn't either.
- Voice chat via in-game on cross-console. Xbox and PlayStation party chats can't see each other. Use Discord or the in-game text, since voice is platform-locked.
When to lock to same-platform
Three cases:
- You're using PlayStation Party / Xbox Party for voice and need a same-console squad.
- You're competing in a tournament that locks to one input device.
- You're playing a game where the matchmaker splits the queue (Apex, Warzone, Fortnite) and same-platform means same-input.
Otherwise, leave crossplay open. The pool is bigger; the matches are faster.
