Is Squad Crossplay? Not Yet, Consoles Reported for 2027
Squad by Offworld Industries is PC-only as of November 2026. Here is what Offworld says about console crossplay and what a mixed group can do now.

TLDR
As of November 5, 2026, Squad, the 100-player tactical shooter from Offworld Industries, is not crossplay because it is not on console yet. The game's Steam page is the PC release, and Offworld has announced PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions with opt-in crossplay, but no launch date. Gematsu and VGChartz report that Secret Mode and Offworld announced a 2027 console release, but Offworld's own FAQ does not state a year. A mixed PC and console group cannot play together today. Until then, everyone needs to be on PC.
This guide is about the game Squad, not squads in general. For other games, see the guide to cross-platform gaming squads.
Where Squad runs today
Steam lists Squad as released on September 23, 2020 and gives Windows system requirements. The Steam page does not list a console edition, and the Offworld announcement describes console as an expansion of the game, not something already available. Offworld ran a free alpha preview on PS5 from October 16 to 25. Its wrap-up post describes squad-against-squad play on one map, Gorodok, and its text does not mention crossplay.
What Offworld has said about crossplay
Offworld's announcement and FAQ, dated October 16, 2026, sets out the plan. These are plans, and the FAQ says the exact launch date will come later.
- Console to console. PlayStation and Xbox players will be able to play together through opt-in crossplay on official console servers.
- PC to console. PC players will be able to host community servers that use the console ruleset. Joining one is opt-in on the PC server browser. Console players with crossplay turned on will see those servers and can join them. The FAQ limits PC and console play together to those specific servers, so do not expect every PC server to be open to console players.
- No shared account data. There is no cross-progression, owning Squad on PC does not give a console copy, DLC purchases are platform-specific, and cosmetics do not carry across platforms.
- Different controls. The console version has no mouse and keyboard support and includes aim assist. Mods will not be available on console at launch.
- PC stays on community servers. Offworld says PC will keep using community-hosted servers.
Publisher Secret Mode's overview, as quoted by Gematsu, describes the game as coming to consoles and PC "with cross-platform multiplayer." That matches the FAQ.
How many people fit in a group
The numbers below come from the Steam page and Offworld's FAQ.
- A match is 50 versus 50, so 100 players.
- A squad on PC holds up to nine players, as part of a 50-person team, per the Steam page. Offworld's FAQ does not state the console squad size.
- Fireteam, the PvE mode, is described on Steam as co-op for up to five players. Offworld's FAQ says console Fireteam supports five.
A group of nine or fewer can fill one PC squad. A larger group needs to split across squads on the same team, and neither the Steam page nor Offworld's FAQ describes how friends are placed on one team.
Set up a group on PC now
- Everyone buys Squad on Steam, where the base game is listed at $39.99 as of November 5, 2026. Check the price on the day you buy.
- Add each other as Steam friends before the session.
- Pick one server and join it at the same time. Join early. Neither the Steam page nor Offworld's FAQ says how to keep friends together on a full server.
- Choose one squad leader and have the others join that squad. The Steam page says map tools and markers help squad leaders direct their soldiers, and it names teamwork and communication as central to the game.
- Use a microphone. Steam lists one as recommended, and Offworld says console players have a significantly better experience when they communicate with their squad.
If your group is split across platforms
Squad does not support this yet, so the realistic options are:
- Move the console players to PC. Each platform is bought separately, so this is a new purchase.
- Wait for the console release and crossplay, and recheck Offworld's news for a date.
- Play a different game together in the meantime. The Valheim crossplay guide shows one way a mixed group can share a world.
What to agree before you queue
- Platform. Which platform everyone plays on, and what happens if someone cannot move.
- Server. Which server to join, and a backup if it is full.
- Leader. Who runs the squad, and whether the group follows their calls.
- Mic rules. Who talks on which channel, and how to keep squad chat clear.
- Time. How long you play, and a signal to leave when someone needs to stop.
The good teammate checklist covers the habits behind most of these. If you have too few friends who own the game, the complete LFG guide has post templates, and a teammate-matching app such as Player 2 can pair you with players who own the game and play when you do.
What may change
All crossplay details above are Offworld's plans as of November 5, 2026. Console launch timing, server rules and squad sizes on console can change before release, so check the Offworld news page before you buy anything for a mixed group.
