Helldivers 2 Squad Guide: Find Divers Who Actually Bring Stratagems
Helldivers 2 is better with a full four-stack. How to find consistent divers, split loadout roles, and survive Helldive difficulty without random teammates calling 380mm barrages on your head.

TLDR
Helldivers 2 scales its chaos to four players, and the gap between random squads and a consistent four-stack is bigger here than in most co-op games. That's because friendly fire is always on, loadout roles are real, and the highest difficulties assume coordination. Quickplay works fine up to mid difficulties; past that, you want known divers. Below is how to build that squad and which roles to split.

Why randoms stop working at high difficulty
On lower difficulties, four strangers with assorted loadouts clear fine. The game is generous, and the funny deaths are the content. From roughly Impossible upward, three things change:
- Friendly fire becomes the top killer. A random with a cluster-bomb habit and no callouts costs more reinforcement budget than the bugs do.
- Loadout overlap wastes slots. Four players all bringing anti-horde means nobody can crack heavies. Squads that pre-agree roles bring the right tools.
- Objectives demand splitting. High-difficulty maps reward a 2–2 split with timed regroups. That takes trust that the other pair can hold, and comms when they can't.
None of this needs esports discipline. It needs the same four people more than once.
The four loadout roles that actually matter
Ignore rigid builds; think in jobs. A comfortable four-stack covers:
- Anti-heavy. Recoilless, EAT, or railgun duty: someone who answers chargers, bile titans, hulks, and factory striders fast.
- Horde control. The machine-gun / flame / gas diver who keeps the chaff off everyone else's objectives.
- Support & sentries. Supply pack, sentries covering extracts and objective holds, and the resupply discipline the squad otherwise forgets.
- Objective runner. Light armor, stealth-leaning, does terminals and side objectives while the other three are loud somewhere else.
Roles rotate per front (bugs vs bots vs squids want different tools). What matters is agreeing on coverage before the drop. In a squad that talks, that takes one sentence; in quickplay, it never happens.
Finding consistent divers
The Helldivers 2 community is famously friendly. The bottleneck is consistency, not attitude. Options, in order of how targeted they are:
- Player 2's Helldivers 2 finder matches on platform, schedule, and vibe. In this game, the "chill democratic chaos" vs "Helldive efficiency" distinction matters more than rank does, and it's exactly what vibe matching filters for. The wider duo finder guide explains the flow.
- LFG posts. In Player 2 you can post or browse squad calls per game. The LFG guide covers writing posts that attract the right divers ("Helldive, mics, 2h, no rush" beats "anyone?").
- The game's own community hubs work too, with more volume and less filtering. Bring your own vetting.

Making the squad stick
Helldivers 2 is uniquely good squad glue because the galactic war gives every session a shared narrative. Instead of grinding rank, you're liberating a planet together. Use that:
- Adopt a front. "We're a bot-front squad" gives the group identity and a default answer to "what are we doing tonight?"
- Standing drop night. One recurring evening outlives any patch cycle. The adult squad playbook applies fully here.
- Keep a fifth diver. Adult schedules eat one member per session; a five-person roster for a four-player game is the difference between playing and rescheduling.
Democracy doesn't spread itself. Find your divers, split the roles, and stop getting 380mm'd by strangers.
