GTA 6 Preload Guide: Times, Size and Launch Day Plan

As of November 5, 2026, GTA 6 preloading starts on November 10 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, ahead of the November 19 launch, and the download is up to 212 GB. PlayStation's blog says PS5 pre-download opens at local midnight on November 10 for people who pre-ordered and tells players to clear at least 212 GB. Rockstar's post says Xbox preloading begins globally at 12am GMT on November 10 instead. Free the space this week, then agree on a start hour and a spoiler rule with your group.

What the sources say

The Rockstar details below come from Rockstar's pre-load post and support FAQ. Local-time lists come from IGN's report. Where PlayStation published the same fact, that page is cited too.

• Platforms. PlayStation's post covers PS5, and Rockstar's post covers PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC release appears in either source. The multiplayer guide covers what is and is not announced about online play.
• Digital preload. Rockstar's post says PS5 pre-loading begins at midnight local time in your time zone on Tuesday, November 10, so places further east reach that hour first. IGN's list shows New York at 12am on November 10 but Los Angeles at 9pm on November 9, the same moment as New York, so US players west of Eastern time should check their console. PlayStation says pre-download timing is available to people who pre-ordered.
• Xbox preload. Rockstar's post gives a single worldwide moment, 12am GMT on November 10. That is 4pm Pacific and 7pm Eastern on November 9, and the morning of November 10 in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing and Melbourne.
• Boxed copies. Rockstar's post says code-in-box versions should be at retailers from November 12. A box is a download code, so a boxed buyer cannot preload before the code is in hand. Rockstar's June pre-order release gave November 12 for digital preloading too, so older articles may still carry that date.

Install size and freeing space

Rockstar's post gives up to 212 GB, depending on your device. PlayStation's blog gives 212 GB as the minimum free space to clear on a PS5. Rockstar's post and FAQ give no patch size, so leave some room above 212 GB.

To make room:

1. Check free space now. Open your console's storage settings and compare it with 212 GB, plus a cushion.
2. Remove what you will not play before launch. Large games you finished are the quickest wins. Saves are usually kept separately, but confirm cloud backup is on first.
3. Look at extra storage. PlayStation's post points to options for extending PS5 storage. A new drive can take days to arrive, so decide this week.
4. Estimate the download. 212 GB is about 1,700 gigabits. At a real 100 Mbps that is roughly 4.7 hours, and at 500 Mbps about an hour. This is plain arithmetic, so evening congestion and console limits can make it slower.
5. Use a wired connection if you can, and start the download before bed. Rockstar's FAQ says automatic pre-load needs auto-downloads on PS5 or automatic updates on Xbox, with the console on or in Rest Mode or Sleep mode.

When the game unlocks

Rockstar's pre-load post gives November 19 but no launch hour. IGN and Push Square report that Rockstar confirmed a local-midnight launch, and IGN applies it to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preloading means the files are already installed, so you can start when the game becomes available, as PlayStation puts it. IGN's list of launch times shows New York, London and Tokyo at 12am on November 19, but shows Los Angeles at 9pm on November 18, which is the same moment as New York. That does not match a plain local-midnight reading. Notebookcheck reported in September that the PlayStation Store suggested 12am Eastern for the US and Canada, with Central, Mountain and Pacific possibly earlier on their own clocks. That fits IGN's list but is not a Rockstar statement. US players outside Eastern time may get the game on the evening of November 18 by the local clock, so confirm the unlock time your platform shows for your account before telling the group an hour.

Free poster and map

Rockstar's post says that on November 19 it will add a printable GTA 6 cover art poster and a map of Leonida to its official site as a free digital download. A double-sided physical version is expected shortly after launch from the Rockstar Store, at $0.99 alone or free with any purchase, per the same post. The post gives no physical ship date.

A launch day plan for friends

Rockstar's pre-load post and June pre-order release announce no online mode for GTA 6, and nothing here changes the multiplayer guide: as of November 5, GTA 6 is framed as single player. Think of launch as a shared event, with everyone on their own screen.

1. Confirm platforms. Everyone needs a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, and the same edition if you want to compare unlockables.
2. Pre-order check by November 9. Each person confirms the pre-order is on the account they will sign in with. The preload itself opens at the times above.
3. Share a preload timestamp. Convert November 10 for your platform. Rockstar says PS5 owners start at midnight local time, but check the console, since IGN's list puts the western US earlier.
4. Report back. Post a screenshot of the finished download, or a "stuck at 80 percent" note, so help comes before launch night.
5. Agree on a start hour. Pick a group time in a shared time zone, and check each unlock time first.
6. Set a spoiler rule. One workable version: no plot talk, clips or screenshots outside a spoiler channel until the weekend, and a "no spoilers" tag on anything posted. Describe how a mission felt, not what happened.
7. Schedule one catch-up call, a few days in, to compare favorite moments.

Filling the group
